Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra Brazil Tour 2018
NISO to Brazil
The Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra plans to embark on a performance tour to Brazil from March 8-18, 2018. Forty-six students of the NISO will be combining with the Orchestra of the University of Caxias do Sul to perform works of American Composers. Students will sit side-by-side with their Brazilian counterparts to perform two concerts, one in Caxias do Sul and one in Porto Alegre. The students of NISO will also perform chamber orchestra and chamber music works for the University community in Caxias while taking in the culture, history and sights of southern Brazil.
Student Testimonial of Past Trips
Every four years, the NISO goes on a national or international tour and provides members with an unforgettable experience. The Symphony Orchestra has traveled to Brazil for a similar performance tour in the past. Current UNI senior, Jotham Polashek, went to Brazil as a freshman and says this about his experience.
The orchestra tour to Brazil my freshman year was a formative experience in my college career. I'd never been anywhere like it, and exploring the beautiful country with my friends and colleagues is something I'll never forget. Going to Brazil and playing the beautiful Mahler symphony alongside Brazilian musicians provided a truly transcendent night of beautiful music. We played better than I'd ever heard us play, and returned to UNI a closer ensemble. Even a short time in such a different culture can make a huge difference to any student with the opportunity to tour with the orchestra, and I'd wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who can do so.
